(NEWTON, ILL.) - The skeletal remains found in Newton Illinois on March 10 are not those of missing I.U. student Lauren Spierer.

They have been identified as those of a man.

"We don't have a lot of information, but we do know it was a male," said Jasper County Coroner Jason Meyer. "It's not that young lady missing from your area."

The remains were found in woods near the town of Newton, which is about 2 1/2 hours from Bloomington.

Bloomington police contacted authorities there about the find as they continue to investigate the Spierer case, who was last seen June 3, 2011.
