(LINTON) - A special prosecutor has been appointed to investigate the off-duty actions of a Linton Police Department patrolman that allegedly happened in the past two months.
Nick Schneider, of Greene County Daily World, reports that Bloomington attorney Barry Brown has been appointed by Greene Superior Court Judge Dena Martin to investigate the case involving officer Nick Yingling.
The case is under investigation by the Indiana State Police Detective Division at the Bloomington Post.
Details of what happened haven't been released, but Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell says that the allegation against patrolman Yingling happened at Linton-Stockton High School, where the officer serves as a coach.
Jerrell said Yingling remains on the job.
"If charges are filed, then it's a different matter," the chief commented. "I am keeping in close contact with Barry Brown and ISP."
Linton-Stockton Superintendent Nick Karazsia said Yingling was a volunteer assistant football coach when the incident occurred.
"There was an incident here at the school with Coach Yingling involved. We have investigated that, and suspended him from coaching during further investigation of that incident," Karazsia said.
Yingling, who formerly worked for the Linton Fire Department, joined the LPD in September 2009.
