Property Taxes Will Be Mailed Tuesday

Last updated on Monday, April 16, 2012

(BEDFORD) - Tax statements will be sent Tuesday with a Spring Installment due date of May 10 and a Fall Installment due date of November 13 (due to a holiday).

Those not receiving a statement should wait one week before calling the Treasurer's office for information.

Homeowners with a homestead deduction have three years to complete and return a pink Homestead Verification Form. These forms were mailed with the two previous year's tax statements and will be sent for the last time in 2012 for those not returning their form previously. You only have to complete the pink form once. If you do not receive a pink form and have a homestead deduction on your statement, it is because you have already returned the form; your deduction information is complete. Envelopes will be specially marked to draw the tax payers attention to the pink form where it is included.

The Assessor reminds taxpayers to watch values and other information closely. You have 45 days from the day the notice was mailed (tax statement) to appeal assessment information. Contact the Assessor's office if you have questions. Appeal information can be found at the bottom of the back side of the TS-1A provided with each tax statement.

The Court House will be closed for Primary Election Day, May 8th. The Treasurer's office will also be closed following the May 10th deadline to complete mail posting. It will re-open Monday, May 21st.

Lawrence County will hold their 2012 Tax Sale on Wednesday, September 19th. Properties three or more installments in arrears will be certified for the Tax Sale the morning of June 29th. Following the June certification, the property must be paid current to remove the property from the Tax Sale.

Questions regarding your assessment should be directed to the Assessor's Office at 812-275-5405; regarding your tax rate, exemptions or deductions to the Auditor's Office at 812-275-3111 or regarding your tax payment to the Treasurer's Office at 812-275-2431.
