(BROWNSTOWN) - Police continue to look for a semitrailer that spilled oil at Main and Commerce streets in Brownstown.
Town Marshal Tom Hanner said traffic was allowed to continue through the intersection, although police were on hand to slow motorists.
Hanner said he discovered the spill at about 10:15 a.m. and called the fire department and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
"It was very slick," Hanner said. "We don't know who spilled it and we don't have any witness."
He said a lack of manpower kept him from rerouting traffic around the spill, so he had Davis bring in a message sign to slow motorists at the intersection.
No wrecks occurred because of the spill, which involved about 50 to 60 gallons, but a couple of motorists lost control of their vehicles, Hanner said.
"One guy lost control, hit a curb and popped a tire," he said.
An INDOT dump truck spread sand on top of the liquid, which was determined to be used motor oil. The agency also swept up the sand.
