(PATOKA RESERVOIR) - Indiana Conservation Officers investigate a hunting accident at Patoka Reservoir.
According to Conservation Officer Mike Kellner, 62-year-old Anthony Pavlench, of Valparaiso and 53-year-old Christopher Hanna, of Chesterton, were turkey hunting together early Thursday morning and were about 30 years apart when Hanna's 12-gauge shotgun discharged and hit Pavlench in the right leg.
Pavlench, assisted by Hanna, was able to walk to their vehicle and was taken to Celestine to meet an ambulance. Pavlench was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
The accident is still under investigation.
This was the third hunting accident this week.
On Wednesday 26-year-old Jesse Boyle, of Elberfeld, was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital by helicopter after he was shot by his father-in-law, 49-year-old Gerald Walton, while turkey hunting in Mitchell.
Boyle, who suffered wounds to the right side of his face, neck and shoulder area. He is listed in fair condition.
Also Wednesday, rescuers trekked deep into the Morgan-Monroe State Forest to retrieve 35-year-old Brian K. Irion of Noblesville, who was accidentally shot by his brother, 55-year-old brother David Irion, of Cicero.
After three hours, an ATV transported him out of the woods to a waiting medical helicopter. Brian suffered wounds to his head and chest area. He was flown to Indiana University Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
Indiana Conservation Officers were assisted by the Dubois County Sheriff's Office and the Celestine Volunteer Fire Department.
