(BLOOMFIELD) - The man accused of stealing nacho-cheese covered hot dogs at least five times from a Bloomfield convenience store has been sentenced to 180 days of home detention.
Nick Schneider, of the Greene County Daily World reports, Michael G. Pitcher, 38, was sentenced April 4 to 180 days home detention with 120 days suspended - resulting in a 60-day executed sentence on the class D felony theft charge.
Pitcher plead guilty to stealing hot dogs from the Picnic Basket store during the early morning hours of May 5, 6, 7, 15, and 22, all in 2011 as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the prosecutor's office.
Pitcher was shown on store surveillance video tape entering the Picnic Basket, 550 South Washington Street, hastily eating a single hot dog and then leaving the store without paying on at least five occasions, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by Bloomfield Police Department Deputy Town Marshal Harvey Holt.
During an interview conducted on June 7, 2011, Pitcher admitted to officer Holt that he had been doing it (the stealing of hot dogs) for years.
In an unrelated case, Pitcher was sentenced on the same day to operating a vehicle while intoxicated as part of a negotiated plea deal.
He was sentenced to 180 days of home detention with 100 days suspended and two-day credit for time already spent in jail. His executed sentence in this case is 78 days of home detention, which will be served consecutive to the theft conviction.
