Man Identified After Found At Scene Of A Garage Fire

Last updated on Thursday, April 19, 2012

(WASHINGTON) - A young man found by Washington firefighters Saturday morning in a smoke-filled house with a burning garage, in the 900 block of South West Third St., has been identified as 18-year-old Jacob Bowling, of Montgomery.

Bowling was transported to Daviess Community Hospital and then to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he's being treated for smoke inhalation.

There was no identification, no cell phone and no vehicle found at the scene, and the victim couldn't talk, so his identity originally was unknown. Bowling had been reported missing, and Det. Daniel Christie of the Washington Police Department ran his driver's license information and matched the photo to the teenager.

Though Bowling is doing ok he is still unable to talk investigators so it's unclear why he was in the house that was owned by Tim Nolan and rented to three construction workers.

Firefighters were told no one was in the house, but did a search anyway and found Bowling laying on a bedroom floor. The fire that started in the garage is under investigation by the state fire marshal's office and no cause has been determined.
