Linton Man Crashes Van Into Porch And Flees

Last updated on Thursday, April 5, 2012

(LINTON) - A Linton man was arrested for drunk driving and leaving the scene of a traffic accident early Tuesday morning.

Nick Schneider, of the Greene County Daily World, reports 53-year-old Jesse L. Hampton, who lives on SW Third Street, was booked into the Greene County Jail after he allegedly struck a parked van with a pickup, drove through the front yard and hit a porch pillar in front of a home at 369 NE Fourth Street about 1:20 a.m., according to a report from Linton City Police Department Officer Thomas Jerrells.

After the impact, Hampton is alleged to have backed his 1997 Ford F-150 pickup out of the yard of Craig and Darla Kline and continued south on Fourth Street NE, Jerrell stated in the report.

The impact to the Kline's 2007 Dodge Caravan pushed it across Fourth Street NE and into the southbound lane.

Officer Jerrell located Hampton's truck traveling north on Third Street NE, made a traffic stop and then arrested the suspect.

"It was later determined that Jesse (Hampton) was intoxicated," Jerrells noted in his report.

Combined damage to both vehicles and the Kline's porch was estimated by Jerrells to range between $10,001 and $25,000.

Hampton faces preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of an accident - all class A misdemeanors.

He's being held in the Greene County Jail in Bloomfield on $4,500 bond.
