(SALEM) - Kids can make a difference.
Lana Hamilton, of the Salem Leader reports, three students from Bradie Shrum Elementary School are busy raising funds for the Salem Animal Shelter. Their babysitter, Bobbie Owens, is coordinating their efforts.
"These are kids that want to change the world. They are starting by making a difference in their community," she said.
Sisters Kylie Wolfe and Destiny Clark and their friend, Aryan Ledford are having their second lemonade stand this Saturday at Riley's Place Playground. Their first fundraising attempt earlier this spring, earned them $27.
Their ultimate goal according to Aryan is $100 but Kylie said the more money the better. "We want to save the animals but also inspire people," Kylie said.
The fundraiser is set to start between 12 and 1 p.m. at the park and the group will probably have other food items for sale, also. Owens said, "We will also collect items for the shelter. Anyone can go to the Salem Animal Shelter website to see what is needed."
Owens is a volunteer at the shelter and on Saturdays Kylie often goes with her. "We walk the dogs and give them baths."
Aryan wants to raise money to help the animals be healthy so they can find homes. All the kids agree that seeing the animals' pictures in The Salem Leader is sad and they want to help save them.
If you can't make it to Riley's Place on Saturday, you can support the kids and their lemonade stand at the Leader Publishing Company's Home and Garden Show on Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28.
