(BEDFORD) - The public is invited to meet one of their candidates for the Democratic nomination for Indiana's 9th District seat.

John W. Tilford, a retired Army Reserve Colonel and civil service retiree from Crane, wants to meet with voters and learn their concerns from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence County History Museum on the northwest side of the square in Bedford. Those attending need to enter the building from the rear, because the front door will be locked.

John does not accept any political donations but asks that those attending please bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to LIFE (Lawrence InterFaith Endeavor) to give to those in need.

"Please let me introduce myself, what I stand for, and ask what I need to do for you in Congress," said Tilford in a press release.

Tilford's individual legislative agenda includes reforming Department of Veteran Affairs adjudication, restoring privacy lost due to the Patriot Act, reconsideration of the office of Director of National Intelligence, and pursuing fraud in entitlement programs.

He plans to protect Social Security, Medicare, and investment in education and infrastructure in cooperation with other Congress men and women. Details available at

Tilford rose from Marine Private to Army Reserve Colonel over a 38 year military career.

He served 18 months in Vietnam and was "by-name" requested by the Defense Intelligence Agency after 9/11. He retired as Deputy Commander, National Ground Intelligence Center. John has assisted citizens of the 9th District with Veterans Affairs, Social Security, education, and housing issues for 37 years.

He founded Hoosier Honor Flight which took 278 WWII and Korean War veterans - including several from Lawrence County - to Washington, DC at no cost to the veterans. John was a management and organizational analyst for both the IRS and the Navy.

Tilford's candidacy is based on a commitment to fix problems at the national level which he has seen hurt us here in the District.
