Last updated on Thursday, April 12, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - IU officials announced Tuesday that a search committee has been formed to seek candidates to fill the position of executive vice president and provost of the IU-Bloomington campus.

IU President Michael McRobbie appointed a 13-member search committee chaired by Bernice Pescosolido, a distinguished professor of sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences, according to a press release.

"The new provost and executive vice president will play a critical role in ensuring the continued success of IU's Bloomington campus," Pescosolido said in the press release. "I am confident that members of the search committee will be able to provide IU President McRobbie with a list of exceptional candidates who will be able to work closely with the president, faculty, students and staff to lead the campus to new academic heights."

Former Provost Karen Hanson left her position Jan. 31 and accepted the roles of provost and senior vice president at the University of Minnesota. Hanson first came to the provost position in 2007 and served as a member of the IU faculty since 1976.

IU Maurer School of Law Dean Lauren Robel is serving as interim provost until a permanent successor fills the position.
