Indiana Youth Institute Holds Domestic Violence Luncheon

Last updated on Friday, April 20, 2012

(BEDFORD) - In 2011, more than 6,000 adults and 4,500 children were served in Indiana emergency shelters due to domestic violence.

To continue the discussion on this important issue, the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) will host a Youth Worker Cafe April 23 in Bedford.

This free luncheon will feature a panel discussion with local Domestic Violence Task Force members, including Becky Sprinkle, school counselor at Bedford North Lawrence High School, and Laura Charles, principal at Stalker Elementary School, among others. The discussion focus will be on the adverse effect violence in the home can have on all family members and how the community can make a positive difference.

The forum will take place April 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Fathers Forever Coalition, 1129 16th St., Bedford, 47421. As part of IYI's Youth Worker Cafe program, attendees will receive lunch at no charge.

If you would like to attend this event, please RSVP by noon April 20 to Megan Baldwin at yclinks@aol.com or 812-278-3978. For more information about Youth Worker Cafe's or other IYI services contact Michelle Sanchez, IYI Southeast Indiana Field Representative, at msanchez@iyi.org or 1-800-495-3219.

This event is open to youth workers, parents, community leaders, youth ministers, educators, counselors, others working to impact the well-being of local youth and those interested in this topic

Youth Worker Cafés are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations that will benefit kids. This Youth Worker Café is made possible in collaboration with HomeTown Competitiveness Coalition and IYI.

The Indiana Youth Institute promotes the healthy development of Indiana children and youth by serving the people, institutions and communities of Indiana that impact their well-being.
