(MORGAN-MONROE FOREST) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a turkey hunting incident involving two brothers.

35-year-old Brian Irion, of Noblesville, and his 55-year-old brother David Irion,of Cicero, were turkey hunting this morning in the Morgan-Monroe State Forest.

The pair had been hunting together since sunrise and at approximately 9 a.m. they split up to hunt a single turkey. A short time later David mistakenly took Brian for the turkey and fired once, hitting Brian in the head and chest area with multiple shotgun pellets.

Due to their remote location, it took several hours before emergency responders could find the hunters. Brian was carried out of the woods by hand and loaded on an over-the-road vehicle and then and flown to Methodist Hospital by Air Ambulance at approximately 2 p.m

The hunting incident is being investigated by Conservation Officer Kevin Conner. Other assisting agencies include; Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Washington Twp Fire Dept, Martinsville City FD, Bloomington Twp FD, IU Heath Life Line Helicopter and ambulance, Rural Metro Ambulance Service, and DNR Property Staff.

The case will be turned over to Monroe County Prosecutors office for review to determine if any charges will be filed.
