(BEDFORD) - Bedford Parks Director Mike Mitchell says the new play ground equipment has been installed at Wilson and Thornton parks.
The grand opening of Shane Ahmed Park is set for today at 4 p.m. Mitchell encouraged the public to attend.
The city renamed the pocket park in honor of Ahmed, a 1997 BNL graduate killed in Afghanistan on Nov. 14, 2010. The Bedford Urban Enterprise Association has purchased new playground for the park at 415 J St.
The Lawrence County Community Foundation awarded a $4,200 matching grant and a generous contribution from an anonymous donor plus a gift from General Motors helped breathe new life into the park.
