Elberfeld Man Shot While Turkey Hunting In Mitchell

(MITCHELL) - An Elberfeld man was shot in the head while turkey hunting in Mitchell this morning.

According to Lawrence County Chief Deputy Mike Branham the department received a call at 7:37 a.m. reporting a hunter had been shot and needed an ambulance.

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the shooting.

26-year-old Jesse W. Boyle was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital by helicopter. He suffered wounds to the right side of his face, neck and shoulder area.

According to officers, Boyle's father-in-law 49-year-old Gerald D. Walton, had been hunting in the area and was heading to meet his hunting partner when he saw movement from behind a tree and fired, injuring Boyle.

An ambulance crew met the hunters at the intersection of Fleenor Road and Ind. 60 West. The man was then taken to the Mitchell High School where he was flown by helicopter to the hospital.

According to police the men were hunting on the Walton property at 1137 Hidden Valley Lane.
