(BROWNSTOWN) - A project to renovate Jackson County Juvenile Home will move into its second and final phase in the future.
Aubrey Woods, of the Tribune, reports Don Banks, director of the home, 416 E. Walnut St. It opened April 29, 1979, and serves as a way for troubled youth to avoid being sent to a juvenile center or state facility. It has a capacity of 10.
Don Banks, director of home, reported to the commissioners, the first phase of the project was nearly complete and crews will begin the final phase of the project soon.
Banks' request for $29,805 to finish the work was approved by commissioners but will require county council approval.
The work, which includes new kitchen cabinets, doors, windows, a roof, new floor coverings and a new heating, air conditioning and ventilation system, began earlier this year and is being financed with funds obtained from the state for housing male juveniles from the county and surrounding counties.
The county has accumulated $700,000 in that fund, Banks said in the past.
In January, the county council approved three quotes totaling $79,045 for many of the general repairs to be accomplished at the home.
Banks said the additional funding is for replacement of bathtubs, furniture, painting, window coverings and surveillance equipment.
