(WASHINGTON) - Bridge work on Clark Road near the Perdue processing plant should begin soon after the Daviess County Council approved $125,000 for Bridge 282 at its Wednesday meeting at the Daviess County Courthouse.
Gregg Sims, of the Washington Times Herald, reports that County Road Supervisor Phil Cornelius requested money to repair the bridge which has recently been limited to 15-ton traffic.
That has caused semi truck traffic to Perdue to use Cosby Road as the main route to and from the plant.
Cornelius said that once work started, he estimated the bridge could be back in service in six working days.
Cornelius said $74,000 of the funding would be used for the bridge package, with the remainder for local equipment and labor.
Council members approved an additional $25,000 in riverboat funding to be spent for the Bennington Levee.
The levee breached last year. County officials have filed a lawsuit against Donald Villwock, Randall Bowman and Shepherd Construction seeking damage repairs following work near the levee that county officials believed caused the breach.
Daviess County Auditor Gail Doades told the council $1.7 million has been returned to the county from overpayment to the state.
The overpayment was recently discovered by state officials.
Doades said she is in the process of determining the amounts of funds organizations will receive. She believes she could have a final tabulation today.
A total of $2,913 was allocated by the council to cover training, sick and vacation days and additional salary expenses from grant money for local health maintenance.
County nurse Jane Norton is retiring. Funds included expenses for Social Security, clinic space and nurse training.
Daviess County commissioner president Tony Wichman sent information to council members about the closure of CR 125E.
Wichman said Indiana Department of Transportation officials had informed him the road would be closed starting Friday for I-69 construction.
Commissioners had expressed concerns the county road would be closed at the same time as Troy Road, making traffic flow in the area difficult.
Wichman said in a note received by Doades that INDOT officials were not willing to offer concessions concerning the closure. The note said the closure would begin Friday to allow additional detour sings to be posted. While council members were not certain if any emergency access would be included, Cornelius said it was his understanding emergency access was not.
