Bloomfield Man Faces Seven Counts of Child Molesting

Last updated on Friday, April 6, 2012

(BLOOMFIELD) - A Bloomfield man is facing seven counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, four class C felonies and three class B felonies.

Sabrina Westfall, of the Greene County Daily World, reports that Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy James O'Malley investigated the report of a possible child molesting.

According to a probably cause affidavit, Marty L. Armes, 40, of Bloomfield, molested two young females - beginning as early as 13-years-old - over a span of several years.

The oldest of the victims, now 19, told family members about the alleged sexual misconduct between herself and Armes, as well as his misconduct with another female, now 17.

In a preliminary interview between O'Malley and the oldest victim, she confirmed the allegations and informed the officer she had not told anyone about the continued incidents "because she was embarrassed and was unsure how her family would react," according the probable cause.

She informed O'Malley that Armes allegedly began the sex acts when she was 14-years-old.

"(She) stated he never physically forced her to participate, but made her feel guilty and that she owed it to him to give in to his advances," O'Malley wrote.

O'Malley, GCSD Deputy Dustin Cain and Department of Child Services employee Kathy
Lawrence visited Armes' residence to discuss the allegations.

O'Malley asked Armes about the allegations, but he did not respond.

Lawrence performed a preliminary interview with the younger victim, and she confirmed the allegations against Armes were true. She said the sex acts began when she was about 13-years-old, and had taken place approximately 100 to 115 times.

O'Malley interviewed Armes again at the GCSD, and he denied the allegations made against him. Armes refused a polygraph test and asked for an attorney.

Julie Criger and Lawrence, both of the DCS, performed a forensic interview with the older victim.

She indicated the sex acts began in 2007, at the age of 14, and continued until another adult moved into the residence in late 2011, when she was 18-years-old.

She noted she had also witnessed Armes touch the younger victim inappropriately.
In a forensic interview with the younger victim, she informed Criger and Lawrence she was first touched inappropriately around the time she turned 13-years-old.

She noted the sex acts continued until around July 2011.

Armes is currently being held on $85,000 bond at Greene County Jail.
