(BEDFORD) - 19-year-old Cody Lake suffered minor cuts and bruises after he swerved his 2002 Oldsmobile Alero to avoid hitting deer in the roadway on Ind. 37 near U.S. 50 east early Wednesday morning.

According to a Bedford Police report Lake was traveling south on Ind. 37 when two deer ran into the roadway. Lake applied his brakes and tried to avoid a collision with the animals.

Lake's car lost traction on the wet road and traveled into the rock embankment before flipping and catching fire. Lake was able to get out of the car.

Firefighters from Bedford Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
