(WASHINGTON) - Daviess County Commissioners approved a bid for $7,000 for the first phase of the plan to become completely compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
According to Tony Wichman, president of the commissioners, the federal government has threatened to withhold funding from local government entities whose facilities are not in compliance with the ADA by July 2013. According to Jason Tiller of the Washington Times- Herald, the commissioners plan to make sure Daviess County is in compliance.
The commissioners hired an engineering firm to come in and look at county owned buildings, sparing no detail however small, for preliminary studies. The commissioners accepted a bid from BLA Engineering in the amount of $7,000 for the study. The study will consist of buildings owned by the county, including those within the city limits and should be completed in April.
In other business at the meeting, the Commissioners approved a $70,077 bid from D&H Construction to redeck Bridge 182 south of Perdue Food Processing. Wichman said that the bridge will be redecked with a metal grid deck and needs to be done quickly because Perdue and Gibco trucks use the bridge on Cosby Road heavily.
