Vehicle Break-Ins Continue

Last updated on Monday, March 19, 2012

(BEDFORD) - Thieves continue to break into unlocked vehicles throughout Lawrence County.

Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says there is an easy solution: lock your vehicles.

The latest rash of thefts was reported Wednesday. A thief or thieves got into about a dozen vehicles in the Sunny Slopes Addition, which is in the northwestern part of the county. For the most part, the thief or thieves took coins or other easy-to-carry items.

Craig suspects teens are the culprits.

"If it's kids, a lot of times (the change is taken) just for spending cash," Craig said.
"If you hit 10 or 12 vehicles in a night and get change out of each of them, and perhaps some other things, that's a decent night, depending on what your job is."

Craig is asking residents to report suspicious activities.

The telephone number for the Lawrence County Police Department is 275-3316. In emergencies, dial 911.
