Trevithick And Yates To Be Honored

(MITCHELL) - Two seniors, Allison Trevithick of Mitchell and Megan Yates of Bedford will be honored as The John Wallace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens of the Year.

The young ladies will be honored at a 6 p.m. awards banquet at the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 139 N. 8th St. in Mitchell.

American History Essay winners also will be honored.

The chapter sponsors the DAR Good Citizens Program and Indiana DAR and National Society DAR Good Citizen Scholarship program at Bedford North Lawrence and Mitchell high schools each year. Qualities of a DAR Good Citizen include dependability, service to community, leadership and patriotism.

The scholarship portion consists of a written essay.

Allison Trevithick

Trevithick is the daughter of Tim and Paula Trevithick of Mitchell. She is president of the MHS senior class and a four-year member of Student Council. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Science Club, Spanish Club and SADD.

As a member of these organizations she has completed many hours of community service and has helped with numerous fundraisers, blood drives, food drives for Lawrence InterFaith Endeavour, Special Olympics and the Persimmon Festival 5K Run.

Trevithick also was a Hoosier Girl's State delegate and has been recognized as a student of the month several times. She earned varsity letters in track, volleyball and basketball and is a member of the "M" Club. Other activities include Mitchell 4-H Club and Lawrence County 4-H Beef Club. Trevithick plays on a travel volleyball team and mows lawns to earn extra money. She attends the Mitchell Church of Christ.

Trevithick was the Daviess-Martin County REMC representative at Indiana's Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., and attended Indiana Junior Academy of Science. Trevithick plans to attend college and is considering majoring in business or nursing.

Megan Yates

Yates is the daughter of Darren and Ann Yates. She is a three-year member of the BNL Student Council and has been her class secretary for the past two years. Yates is a member of I-CARE Council, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, SADD and Impact Club. She participated in cheerleading and has eared several varsity letters. She received the mental attitude award for cheerleading and is a First and Green Representative for BNL. As this representative she stresses environmental responsibility, and as a result of her work, students at BNL now recycle cans and plastic bottles.

Yates is a member of Leatherwood Christian Church and has participated in a mission trip. She takes dance and gymnastics lessons and has been a dance instructor the past two years. She has worked several part-time jobs and continues to baby-sit for several families.

Yates plans to attend college and study hospitality and tourism management.
