(SALEM) - Six Salem High School graduates will be recognized and entered into the school’s Academic Hall of Fame during a banquet in their honor set for Friday, April 13.
Marcia Walker, of the Salem Leader reports, the six individuals that are members of the 2012 Lion Legacy Class are: Bradie Shrum, Class of 1887, educator, Salem schools; Jerry Lockenour, Class of 1963, professor Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California; Dr. Hugh Hattabaugh, Class of 1969, Superintendent Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Charlotte, N.C.; Brent Elliott, Class of 1976, entrepreneur, Senior Business, Executive world wide; John T. Smith, Class of 1985, president, Package Right Corporation, Tipton and Dr. Ranessa Cooper, Class of 1993, professor of Biology & Director of Slayton Arboretum, Hillsdale College, Michigan.
The Lion Legacy Program recognizes graduates of Salem High School who have achieved success in their chosen field and who will serve as role models for future Salem High School graduates. These graduates will address the student body on April 13. They will each be invited to tell about their chosen fields and how SHS was a foundation for their success.
That evening, the public is invited to a banquet to honor this class. The banquet will be held at 7 p.m. at the SHS cafeteria and presentation room. Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased at Mid-Southern Savings Bank, Fordyce Insurance or the Salem Apothecary.
The event is sponsored by the Salem Education Foundation and Salem Community Schools. The foundation's purpose is to expand access to higher education for students of the Salem schools. SEF also partners with the Washington County Community Foundation to invest and manage scholarship funds.
The Lion Legacy Program is a way to celebrate the successes of our former students and to encourage our current students to aim their sights high as they work toward their own academic achievements.
