(PATOKA LAKE) - The Patoka River level was just over 13 feet Tuesday morning, but the discharge rate at the dam was over 1,100 cubic feet per second, so the river will rise accordingly.
Jasper Street Commissioner Raymie Eckerle met Monday morning with other local officials including County Highway Superintendent Steve Berg and they agreed to ask the Army Corps of Engineers to increase the discharge rate at Patoka Reservoir.
Eckerle says that the level of 14.6 is the mark they are shooting for. This higher level will allow Patoka Reservoir to begin to drop to more acceptable levels to keep from the possibility of flooding that was seen last year.
A call to Steve Berg at the County Highway Department this morning shows that they are down to two road closures due to high water: CR 800 West, north of CR 300 South - in the river bottoms and Ell Creek Road, north of CR 400 South.
Berg says that the number will go back up after the higher amounts of water being released from Patoka arrive down stream.
