(WORTHINGTON) - 39-year-old Ali Dhahir, of Newberry, will be formally charged on several felony counts because he allegedly knocked a woman to the floor, kicked her, and then threatened her with a shotgun and a butcher knife. (GC Daily World)
He was arrested Feb. 29 by Worthington police on preliminary charges of intimidation, domestic battery in the presence of a child less than 16-years-old and pointing a firearm at another person.
Police alleged that on the night of Feb. 28th and the early morning hours of Feb. 29th, Dhahir got into an argument and pushed a Worthington woman to the floor, then kicked her in the face and the ribs.
At one point in the argument police say Dhahir got a 12-gauge shotgun from a bedroom and came out and pointed the gun at the woman and stated, "I am going to shoot you."
In the probable cause affidavit police wrote, "She advised that she feared for her life and then Dhahir stated, 'Never mind, I will shoot myself, and you will just have to suffer'."
The woman told police that Dhahir then put the gun to his head and mouth areas like he was going to shoot himself.
The woman also told police that at another point in the night, Dhahir hit her in the back of the head with an unknown object. At another point he allegedly grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen and was threatening to hurt himself.
The woman also said her 7-month-old child was present during the incidents and was screaming and crying.
While talking with police, the woman received a series of text messages from Dhahir on her cellphone.
On one of the texts, he wrote, "Please don't tell anyone about last night." On another text, Dhahir allegedly wrote that he was going to kill someone.
Police photographed the text messages.
Dhahir later turned himself in at the Greene County Sheriff's Department in Bloomfield.
He posted $1,500 cash on a $15,000 appearance bond. His initial hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 12 in Greene Superior Court.
