Medora Teen Injured In ATV Accident

(MEDORA) - Indiana Conservation officers are investigating an all terrain vehicle accident that occurred in Jackson County North of Medora.

According to officers a 17-year-old Medora boy was operating the ATV in a fenced pasture when he lost control and hit a 5 strand barbed-wire fence.

The boy's momentum carried him over 30 feet along the fence. The fence caused deep cuts to his neck and throat.

He was able to dial 911 and request an ambulance. Witnesses hurried to his aid as well. He was alert and conscience when emergency personnel arrived. He was taken by Stat Flight helicopter to a Louisville hospital.

According to Indiana Conservations officer Cpl. Nate Berry, the boy was not wearing a helmet or any safety equipment at the time of the accident.

Jackson County Sheriff deputy Adam Nicholson assisted Berry in the investigation. Also assisting was Jackson County EMS medic 6 along with Carr Township Volunteer Firefighters.
