Martin County Sheriff To Ask From Money To Repair Jail

Last updated on Monday, March 26, 2012

(SHOALS) - Martin County Sheriff Rob Street asked county commissioner about the status of work to be done on the exterior of the jail.

Bids were opened at the last commissioners' meeting and taken under advisement. The bids received were from Craftsman Construction of Huntingburg for $119,000, Jasper Lumber for $141,600, and Tri-County Builders of Bedford for $131,000.

The amount the commissioners budgeted for the project was $90,000.

Street will go to the county council meeting on April 2, and ask for an additional appropriation of $20,000 to cover what was not budgeted for the project.

Commissioner Paul George says believes it is the agreement of the county council and commissioners that the work needs to be done as soon as possible to prevent more damage from occurring and understands that this has been a work in progress for years.
