(BLOOMINGTON) - An Illinois man who was drinking at Kilroy’s bar in downtown Bloomington was arrested for public intoxication early Friday.
Indiana State Excise Police officers say he was over four times the legal limit to drive.
Kilroy's employees escorted Jason B. Klis, 21, out of the bar at around 1:00 am and placed him on a bench outside. Police say he was so intoxicated that he fell off the bench and onto the sidewalk.
Excise officers saw him fall and went to help him. They tried to walk Klis to their police car, but he couldn't walk and passed out when they reached the parking lot.
Klis was taken to the hospital where he was treated for intoxication. He tested .336% blood alcohol content. He spent four hours in the hospital before being taken to the Monroe County Jail. He faces a charge of public intoxication.
More police are patroling the area as part of the Intensified College Enforcement (ICE) initiative, which puts extra officers on patrol in Bloomington, Greencastle and Muncie. ICE was launched Feb. 6 as a pilot project aimed at reducing underage drinking at Ball State University, DePauw University and Indiana University-Bloomington.
Indiana State Excise Police officers are the enforcement division of the Indiana Alcohol & Tobacco Commission.
The Indiana State Excise Police will continue their Intensified College Enforcement initiative throughout the spring semester at Indiana University.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
