(BEDFORD) - The annual “Blooms A Busting” lawn, garden and patio show planned for Saturday will include a focus on family-centered gardening, and that can mean encouraging little ones - even toddlers - to get involved.

Admission is free. The is sponsored by Lawrence County Master Gardeners, through the Lawrence County Extension Service. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lawrence County 4-H Fairgrounds Exhibit Building.

Dave Redman, Lawrence County Extension Service educator for agriculture and natural resources, reports the day will feature a number of educational programs and displays.

Among them will be a section devoted to "Great Ideas for Creating Learning/Play Areas," where the value of teaching children about gardening will be emphasized.

Saturday's activities will provide information on such topics as what type of clothing and tools are appropriate for children when they garden. She said she and other Master Gardeners will talk about container gardens, including the use of cardboard boxes placed on top of the ground.

parents are urged to bring their children to the event and suggested even toddlers can learn and have fun in the garden.

Redman says several vendors will be at the show with plants available for sale. There will also be door prizes. Those attending the show will have an opportunity to register for the door prizes, but to receive a prize, must be present when winning names are drawn.
