(WASHINGTON) - Washington Police Chief Mike Healy says one person is confirmed dead in an apartment house fire in the 100 block of N.E. Seventh Street in Washington.
Police dogs from Evansville have been brought to the home to search for other possible victims.
An official from the State Fire Marshal's Office is also on the scene.
A reporter at the scene says police have confirmed the death of one person. Two others were injured in the fire - one who jumped from the second story and one who was rescued from the roof of the house. Both of those victims were taken to Daviess Community Hospital.
One was treated for smoke inhalation and another, who suffered serious burns was flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hosptial.
Washington fire fighters, city police and Washington Township volunteer fire fighters are on the scene.
Heavy smoke filled more than a two-block area and traffic was blocked around the scene.
Parents looking to pick up their children from Washington Junior High and High School needed to find alternate routes.
North East Seventh is closed around the scene, and E. Walnut and E. VanTrees streets are closed from the area of the fire to SR 57.
