(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Commissioner discussed making changes to their agenda policy Tuesday night.

The changes would allow the commissioners to run more effective and efficient meetings.

With the changes, the public would be required to fill out a form identifying the issue they would like to address at the meeting and then submit the form for approval before being added to the agenda.

Commissioner Bill Spreen was concerned the new policy would limit public comment that could better help them in their decision process.

After some discussion with county attorney Dave Smith about Open Door Laws and other concerns the commissioners tabled the motion to further explore their options.

In other business:

The commissioners heard from Larry Brown, who requested property be vacated in Leatherwood Circle. The commissioners tabled the request because the property needs to be surveyed to clear up exactly where the property lines are located, before they vacate the property.

Lawrence County Sam Craig told the commissioners there were 111 inmates at the jail, 13 were women and 14 were Department of Correction inmates. Craig says because the jail count is down, they have been able to make needed repairs at the jail.

Highway superintendent Dave Holmes told the commissioners, crews have been cutting brush, clearing out ditches and replacing culverts and doing cold patching to repair potholes.

Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Department representatives told the commissioners construction should begin soon on their new fire department. A ground breaking ceremony will be held March 23 at 10:30 a.m.

Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer reported she had been to southern Indiana to see how clean up efforts were going. She said the main concern there was what to do with all the debris. She says she will be working on a plan for debris removal for Lawrence County. She added, the county will be participating in Indiana Severe Weather Preparedness Week and she will present more information on the event at the next commissioners meeting.
