(BLOOMFIELD) - 43-year-old Thomas E. Squibb Jr, who now lives in Bloomington is facing charges of felony rape after a woman reported she was sexually assaulted at his Bloomfield home after she got drunk on wine coolers and spent the night there.
A man faces a felony rape charge after a woman reported she was sexually assaulted at his Bloomfield home after she got drunk on wine coolers and spent the night at his home.
Squibb Jr. was arrested Tuesday and remains in the Greene County Jail.
in November, Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Eric Nash met the woman at IU Health Bloomington Hospital after she was examined by nurse.
The woman told Nash she had been sexually assaulted in Bloomfield by a man named Tom. She did not know his last name or his exact address, only the road he lived on in Bloomfield. But she did have his number in her cellphone, according to a probable cause affidavit on the case.
The woman told police she was at the housewith two other adults and a child. They played flashlight tag and were drinking alcohol. She said it was the first time she had consumed alcohol and estimated she had four or five wine coolers, but didn't finish the last drink, the report reads.
The group later went inside to watch a movie. She told police she fell asleep on a day bed and the man slept on an air mattress in the living room, while others retired in separate rooms of the home.
The woman told police she awoke to a sexual assault, but she didn't remember much, other then telling the man to stop.
When she awoke, she told police she found her pajama bottoms, underwear and socks had been removed. She redressed and snuck out of the house, while the man was still asleep. It took about 15 minutes, she told police. She "stated the door made a lot of noise when you tried to open it (squeaking) and every time Tom would move or stop snoring she would stand very still and then once he was snoring again she would move (the) door some more," the affidavit reads.
When Nash attempted to interview Squibb during a meeting at the Greene County Jail, Squibb requested a lawyer and said it wasn't right for her to make sexual accusations against him.
While waiting on DNA results, Squibb contacted Nash every few weeks to check on the status of the investigation. "Thomas Squibb Jr. advised once this investigation was complete he was going to get an attorney to sue (the woman) for defamation of character for the false report she had made against him," the affidavit reads.
Squibb's DNA was found in evidence collected during the woman's sexual assault examination, according to the affidavit.
A jury trial has been scheduled for late September. Attorneys were appointed for Squibb. A felony rape conviction can result in six to 20 years of jail time and up to $10,000 in fines.
