(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Board of Works accepted the bid from E-One for the purchase of a new Triple Combination Pumper Fire Truck.
The bid was for $312,600.
Bedford Fire Chief Jon Wagnor told the board the E-One was the best buy for the city, because of the trucks qualities, durability and versatility.
"It is a higher quality truck at a substantially lower price," Wagnor says. "This truck retails for $349,000. We can't beat their bid with the options they are providing."
Six companies submitted bids:
Crimson's bid was the lowest, but they did not meet the bid specifications and the board voted to reject the bid.
The Pierce bid was next in line, but the extras and safety standards on the E-One surpassed the Pierce truck.
The new truck will replace a 1989 model that is not running and the pump does not work. Wagnor says there are no parts available to repair the pump, so the truck will be scrapped or salvaged out.
According to E-One's Dave Thomas, the new truck, which will arrive from Ocala, Florida, where E-One is located, will be Bedford in about two to three weeks.
"We need to get some lights installed and she should be good to go," Thomas says.
