(WASHINGTON) - The Washington School Board has a new superintendent.
Daniel L. Roach is currently superintendent of Decatur County Community Schools. He began his career in education within the Greensburg Community School System, where he was an elementary teacher for 20 years. From there, Roach was hired by the Eastern Greene School Corporation, where he was elementary principal for three years and assistant superintendent for one year before returning to Decatur County. He served as assistant superintendent there for two years and has been superintendent for the last five years.
Roach will replace Bruce Hatton who is retiring this summer after a 38-year career in education.
The board offered Roach a three-year contract effective July 1, which he accepted
Roach was born in Washington and grew up at the boarder of Dubois and Orange counties. His parents still live near French Lick. Roach's wife, Kay, is a respiratory therapist. The couple has a son, Brock, who's a junior at Anderson University, and a daughter, Lauren, who's a student at Ivy Tech.
Roach received his EdS and EdD from Indiana University Graduate School of Education in Bloomington. He's a member of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents, Phi Delta Kappa and other professional organizations. Roach also has been active in his community, including the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, historical society, community arts and cultural council, and various church committees.
