(WORTHINGTON) - 21-year-old David Pine II of Terre Haute was arrested by Indiana State police for allegedly stealing cars. He was charged with auto theft and conspiracy to commit theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. (GC Daily World)

He was arrested after an ISP investigation that started in July after a Newberry resident Eric Toon report his 2002 Dodge truck was stolen from his home. ISP Trooper Eric Nash saw the truck traveling north on State Road 57 and attempted to stop the truck.

The driver of the truck fled at a high rate of speed. The driver was swerving back and forth between the lanes of traffic and then came to a sudden stop in the middle of the road.

The driver then put the truck in reverse and allegedly drove toward the trooper's cruiser and hit the car pushing the vehicle to the east side of the road near a cornfield. Trooper Nash applied his brakes in an attempt to stop his vehicle, but the truck continued to push the police car another 20 feet before stopping. After stopping, the driver of the truck drove off at a high rate of speed toward Worthington, where it crashed into a culvert on State Road 67 and First Street.

The driver then fled on foot. Worthington police found the driver's cell phone in the truck and found a phone number for the driver's mother.

The same day the truck was stolen, Pine reported his 1997 Toyota Corolia was stolen and called police from a number police found in the cell phone that was found in the truck. The number belonged to a juvenile that was texted after the theft of the truck.

According to police on Feb. 13th during an interview with Pine, he admitted that on July 16 he had texted Zach Stableton about stealing the truck. Stableton and Pine agreed that a teen could steal the truck and they would pay him $100 to do the job.

Pine told police he wanted to steal the truck for the front bumper and bed. The case is still under investigation and more arrest could be pending.
