Last updated on Monday, February 27, 2012

(WORTHINGTON) - A special prosecutor has been appointed to investigate and determine if criminal charges will be filed against suspended Worthington Town Marshal Dennis Conaway. (GC DAILY WORLD)

Bloomington Attorney Barry Brown was appointed Friday in an order issued by Greene Superior Court Judge Dena Martin. It will be up to Brown to investigate any allegations and determine if criminal charges are warranted, according to Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw, who requested a special prosecutor be appointed in the case.

Conaway was placed on paid administrative leave Dec. 13, 2012 by the Worthington Town Council pending the outcome of the investigation. Details of why Conaway, who's been with the department for 18 years, was placed on leave have not been released by the council members or town attorney Jacob Fish.

A letter affirming the suspension was forwarded to Conaway from the council. Conaway was directed to return any Worthington Police Department property or town of Worthington property to include, but not limited to: Vehicles, vehicle accessories, firearms, ammunition, keys, badge of authority, or any other equipment or accessories

Deputy Town Marshal Don Richardson was named interim town marshal during the investigation period. Conaway had previously informed the council of his intentions to retire, effective Feb. 1.
