(BROWNSTOWN) - 34-year-old Jesse Brown's day took a turn for the worse Monday when he went to the jail in Brownstown to admit his involvement in a couple of wrecks Feb. 1 in the Clearspring area.
Jackson County Sheriff's Department Officer Rick Meyer said Jesse Brown of Seymour was arrested Monday after he told police he was driving a white 2002 Ford F250 involved in those Feb. 1 wrecks.
While he was being booked into jail on charges related to the wrecks, officers said they found Brown had been drinking and he was arrested on a separate charge of public intoxication.
The first of those Feb. 1 wrecks was reported by a motorist who told Meyer a "loud" white truck had sideswiped her vehicle as she drove in the 2800 block of County Road 825 West. The woman told police the driver of the truck then drove away.
Lt. Andy Wayman and Officer Jeff Walters responded to a report of a second wreck around that same time and found a white truck that had went over a ditch and hit a tree in the 2000 block of West County Road 200 North. The driver fled on foot and police searched the area, but were unable to find the driver.
During a search of the truck, officers found precursors used in the manufacture of meth and hypodermic needles.
On Monday, Brown came to the sheriff's department in Brownstown and told police he had been driving the white truck.
He was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage wreck, a Class C misdemeanor, as well as a Class D felony charge of possession of two or more precursors while in the possession of a firearm. He also faces a Class D felony charge of possession of a hypodermic needle.
Brown was booked into the jail at 8:40 p.m. and was being held on a $10,005 bond.
During the book-in process, Brown was arrested on a separate charge of public intoxication because he was drunk. He was being held on a $355 bond in connection with that charge.
Indiana State Police Trooper Stephen Wheeles and his K9 Kane also participated in the investigation.
