Sheriff: Beware Of Vehicle Break-Ins

Last updated on Monday, February 13, 2012

(LAWRENCE COUNTY) - Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig is warning motorists to lock their vehicles after a rash of vehicle break-ins last week on Sunny Acres Drive.

Craig says five vehicles were broken into and items were taken. There may be more break-ins that were not reported, because police found several items along the roadway that have not been reported stolen.

Bedford Police Department Assistant Chief Joe Dewees says his department arrested one group of people who allegedly broke into vehicle in Bedford. However, he warned motorist there are probably others still at large.

The thieves are taking items that can be easily sold like radar detectors, GPS, money, guns and CDs. Both officers say any resident who sees suspicious activity should call police.
