Maple Syrup Festival Kicks Off In Salem

Last updated on Saturday, February 25, 2012

(SALEM) - Thousands of visitors will travel over the next month to Southern Indiana for some maple syrup.

Today begins the two-weekend Maple Syrup Festival at Leane and Michael Goering's sugarbush in Salem.

Leane says people can see how maple sap is evaporated into maple syrup, at a ratio of about 40 gallons of sap to each gallon of syrup. She says they have made a little over 600 gallons so far. Of course, there's plenty of food including pancakes and syrup.

The 'National' Maple Sugar Festival in Medora will take place on March 3 and 4th, and again the 10th and 11th. This one is the first and only national maple syrup festival in America.
