(BEDFORD) - The City of Bedford, City of Mitchell, Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce, and Lawrence County Economic Growth Council are hosting a Foreign Investment Conference today (Friday).
The events keynote speaker will be Yang Guoqiang, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Chicago that serves nine states in the mid-west region of the United States.
Mayor Wayne Seybold of Marion, Indiana will also share the success that his city has achieved through foreign investment.
In addition, there will be presentations from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Indiana Department of Agriculture, Japan American Society of Indiana, Bingham Economic Development, Gaylor Inc., and Larry Ingraham, President of Ingraham & Associates.
Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce President, Jamie Medlock stated, "Lawrence County is pleased to welcome such distinguished guests to our community. We believe that this is the first step in developing lasting partnerships that will have a positive impact on our community for years to come."
"I am excited about the opportunity to introduce our community to the potential of foreign investment," Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis said. "Local leaders will hear from those that have experienced success through foreign investment and how it is increasing the number of good paying jobs in Indiana, which can be replicated in Bedford and Lawrence County."
The event will conclude with the annual Lawrence County Appreciation Luncheon. Gene McCracken, Director of the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council shared "we will continue to support existing industries throughout Lawrence County, but also recognize that the business climate for all companies is strengthened when the economic base of the community is diversified. Foreign investment is one way that this can be accomplished."
Event sponsors include the AT&T Corporation and Duke Energy and is being held at the Comfort Inn located at 911 Constitution Avenue in Bedford, Indiana.
