Greene County Hospital Unveils Renovation Plans

Last updated on Thursday, February 2, 2012

(GREENE COUNTY) - Greene County Hospital officials unveiled its plans to launch a $6.5 million building renovation project that will greatly expand the current emergency room and provide more space for other departments.

The hospital which moved to Lone Tree Road in 1974 continues to provide acute care services as well as being a leader in student education and wellness initiative and developing a home health care agency, according to hospital administrator Jonas Uland.

The hospital is an economic asset to the country with 278 employees and supporting nursing homes, physicians and businesses. The hospital with 25 beds has a monthly payroll that is near $1 million and an annual budget of about $35 million.

The facility is owned by the county, but receives no tax money. It operates solely on its revenues generated.

Uland says, consequently more patients are seeking care through the emergency room.

The reason for the renovations is because the hospital has outgrown themselves in several departments including physical therapy, pharmacy, lab and x-ray.

Uland says the expansion of the emergency room will make the hospital more efficient and effective.
