(BLOOMFIELD) - The Greene County Sheriff's Department is looking to upgrade its Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD). (GC DAILY WORLD)
Sheriff Terry Pierce presented his plans to the Greene County commissioners saying the system is just outdated and failing. The current system was installed when the jail was built 16 years ago and there is no maintenance support for it.
The sheriff says hardware and software offered by Spillman Technologies, based out of Salt Lake City, Utah would allow the county to piggyback off a server that is in Daviess County Sheriff's Department in Washington at a lower price than purchasing a new system.
He added several other counties are doing the same procedure. The cost to the county would be about $166,000. He plans to fund the upgrade from the County Corrections Fund.
One of the key benefits will be deputies will have remote access to the system and be able to file reports from the scene of a crime or accident from their vehicles. The county's Think Map GIS system will also be integrated into the new system.
Spillman Technologies serves more than 985 police departments, sheriff's departments and communications centers, fire stations and correctional facilities nationwide. They specialize in the Computer Aided Dispatch records management systems.
