(BROWNSTOWN) - A JBM Contracting, of Zionsville, was awarded the contract to help convert a portion of the former Freetown Elementary School into a fire station. JBM Contracting placed a bid of $493,000. (TRIBTOWN)
County commissioners opened nine bids for the federally funded project during their Feb. 7 meeting and took those bids under advisement for review by the fire department board and others involved in the project.
Two deductions will reduce the cost of the project by $10,400, and a federal Community Focus Fund grant will cover $472,087 of the cost. The fire district will pay the remaining $10,400.
The project would see construction of a 4,774-square-foot addition to the school, which closed at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. The existing building is 11,750 square feet, but 6,642 square feet of it would be demolished.
The remainder would become support area for the fire department. The addition would include four bays for vehicles and additional storage as well as two links to the existing building.
Commissioners agreed to accept JBM's bid pending the state granting a building permit.
