(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University Fire Department responded to a faulty fire alarm at 4:04 p.m. Monday at the Lilly Library.
Employees at the building stood on the steps of the Showalter Fountain and across the street as firefighters entered the building to investigate.
The library is home to historical texts and has a labyrinth-like structure. The building produces its own steam to keep it at a relative temperature to help preserve the library's contents.
Lilly Curator of Books Joel Silvers says it was probably a faulty alarm sensor that alerted firefighters. Silvers added that when the heating system turns on the steam is injected through the ventilation system to prevent the atmosphere from becoming too dry.
