(MITCHELL) - Nearly two dozen concerned citizens attended a neighborhood watch meeting in Mitchell to learn more about what they can do to stop crime in their community.
Perry Reynolds, who lives in the 300 block of West Warren Street and was victimized by criminals who stole nearly $3,000 in tools from his garage two days after Christmas, is organizing the neighborhood watch.
The goal is to get residents to be an extra set of eyes for police and report suspicious activity. The plan is to have block leaders.
Reynolds hopes to divide Mitchell into four quadrants with six to eight block leaders per quadrant. Those block leaders would be at the top of a calling tree and be the first contact, after police, when something suspicious is is happening in a neighborhood.
About eight people have volunteered to be block leaders, but Reynolds says many more are needed. Those interested in becoming a block leader or volunteering to help in their neighborhood should call Reynolds at 797-8913.
