Bloomington South To Compete At Science Olympiad

(VINCENNES) - About 100 students from five high schools will put their knowledge to the test when they compete in a Regional Science Olympiad at Vincennes University on Saturday Participating high schools include Bloomington South, Owen Valley,
Sullivan, Terre Haute South, and Vincennes Rivet.

The students will compete in 23 rigorous events that will test their knowledge of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers, and technology. This marks the 20th year VU has hosted competition.

Science Olympiad is a national program for elementary, middle, and high school students to stimulate interest and enrollment in the sciences and reinforce the concepts of hands-on and cooperative learning. Teams will be welcomed during an opening ceremony at 8:00 a.m. (EST) at VU's Red Skelton Performing Arts Center. The contests will begin at 9:00
a.m. in the McCormick Science Center and other campus sites and will conclude at 2:15 p.m. Awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m. at VU's Green Activities Center.

Members of winning teams in each event will receive medals for finishing first through fifth. Team scores are accumulated for all events and positions are based on total points. Trophies are awarded to teams achieving first, second, and third places. The top teams will advance to the State Science Olympiad in March in Bloomington.
