BNL Principal Placed On Administrative Leave

Last updated on Friday, February 10, 2012

(BEDFORD) - Bedford North Lawrence High School Principal David Beaver was placed on administrative leave Thursday.

The administration is not discussing why he was placed on administrative leave, saying it was a personnel decision.

North Lawrence Superintendent Dennis Turner says it's an internal personnel matter and only a North Lawrence matter and does not involve any other agency or group.

BNLs two assistant principals, Dan Dyke and Steve Underwood, will be handling the administrative duties with aid from Turner and Assistant Superintendent Gary Conners.

Turner says his office is trying to seek some kind of solution that is best for all involved.

The school board will hold an executive meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday to discuss individuals' status as employees and other issues. Conners says he believes the situation with Beaver will be discussed in the open school board meeting on Thursday Feb. 23.

Beaver served as an assistant principal before taking over duties as principal in July. The school board approved a two year contract for Beaver effective for 2012 to 2014. The salary is $91,198 or $93,934 with retirement stipend counted for the two year period.

Beaver replaced Bill Denney. Denney gave up the principal position when he was asked to direct both staff development and a program for students who have been expelled from school. Denny has since resigned from that position, and his resignation will be effective June 30th.
