(BEDFORD) - Anna Klunder of Mitchell Junior High School won the WBIW Lawrence County Spelling Bee trophy Friday afternoon after spelling the word "vendetta".

She spelled the word without hesitation.

Runner up was Jacy Smith, an 8th grader at Shawswick Middle School. Placing second was Chole O'Conner, an 8th grader at St. Vincent de Paul and third place went to Michael Pittman, an 8th grader at Oolitic Middle School. Arjent Imeris, a 4th grader at Burris Elementary School, was the winner of the elementary school division.

Moderator of the competition was Adele Bowden-Purlee.

Besides a trophy, Anna won $100 from WBIW; who sponsored the 38th annual Lawrence County Spelling Bee; a Papa John's pizza party for her homeroom, a WBIW t-shirt and a certificate of participation.

Klunder will now compete in the regional spelling bee on March 10th at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville in hopes of winning a $5,000 savings bond.
