(BLOOMFIELD) - It looks like the Greene County zoning issue will not be on the November General Election ballots as a referendum as the county commissioners had hoped.

District 62 State Representative Matt Ubelhor told the commissioners that he hasn't been able to generate enough support for the measure from either political party.

He introduced House Bill 1017 earlier in the session but there wasn't any support to back it. He is not sure it will ever see the light of day.

Ubelhor says committee members are reluctant to her the proposal and some believe it is unconstitutional. But he says he is not giving up.

He says representatives believe it is something county commissioners can enact without the state getting involved. But because zoning is such a hot topic in Greene County Ublehor would like the people to decide by voting on it.

Greene County is only one of 8 counties that does not have some kind of land use planning ordinance in place.

The Greene County Advisory Plan Commission is taking a more conservative, less restrictive approach to the zoning ordinance that is now being drafted. It is expected to be done in the next couple of months and if approved will be forwarded to the county commissioners for a vote.
