Woman Accused Of Hitting Husband With Paddle Appears In Court

Last updated on Tuesday, January 24, 2012

(BLOOMFIELD) - 33-year-old Shelley Sprang, of Linton, pleaded not guilty to battery in the presence of minor children.

Sprang is accused of hitting her husband with a wooden paddle.

Sprang was arrested Jan. 15 after police say she hit her husband in the left thigh with the paddle while he was sitting on the porch.

Her husband told police the two had been arguing all day. Police say two 8-year-old children were present when the incident happened.

Shelley told police it was the children who hit her husband not her. Shelley told police she was only tickling her husband and never hit him.

Greene County Superior Court Judge Dena Martin issued a no contact order between Shelley and her husband and appointed public defender Alan Baughman to represent her.
